German Chancellor Merz: Will negotiate steel export quotas with the United States.

On August 1, Jin10 reported that German Chancellor Merz stated on Friday that the EU would negotiate with the United States on steel issues, focusing on export quotas that can be achieved without imposing excessively high tariffs. The two sides reached a trade agreement last month, in which the tariffs for most products were set at 15%, but negotiations for certain industries are still ongoing, including steel and aluminum, which have a tariff of 50%. Merz stated that the current task is to establish the "details." Merz described the agreement as "painful" for the entire European industry, but he noted that the EU does not yet have the capacity to trigger a comprehensive trade dispute. He said, "There would only be losers, and the biggest loser could be us Europeans."
