Dialogue: KOR Protocol Founder Discusses How Blockchain is Changing the Music and Entertainment Industry

A new tool is changing the way music artists and creators remix their favorite songs to suit our increasingly virtual lifestyle.

KOR Protocol is a decentralized intellectual property ( IP ) platform designed to help creators protect and monetize their works. The platform opened to global creators and developers on September 26.

With the support of major web3 players such as Animoca Brands, Republic, and the Solana Blockchain, KOR Protocol utilizes blockchain technology to provide a scalable and transparent IP management system.

Starting this week, developers worldwide will be able to access the KOR Player's software development kit (SDK) to install and use the protocol. The era of recording mix tapes from the radio onto cassettes is long gone.

With the help of KOR Player, friends and creators can collaborate to turn music into game soundtracks, fan-made remixes, etc., without violating copyright rules. This is the core advantage of the KOR Protocol.

KOR Protocol and its developer Pixelynx report that the related project has attracted over 600,000 users, including Pixelynx's AI music platform KORUS and Netflix's "Black Mirror" "Smile Club" experience. The latter sold out in less than three hours in February 2024, minting approximately 285,000 NFTs and generating $1.5 million in revenue.

Pixelynx is led by industry veterans Inder Phull, along with electronic music artists Joel "Deadmau5" Zimmerman and Richie "Plastikman" Hawtin.

Q: How would you explain what Pixelynx does in one or two sentences?

A: We are building an entertainment ecosystem that allows IP holders to put their IP on the Blockchain and grow together with the community through different applications. We pay great attention to the creator experience and believe this will enable fans and creators to create alongside their favorite IP.

Q: How do you define the metaverse?

A: The metaverse is the future of the internet and entertainment, integrating technologies such as blockchain, identity tools, and gaming to create a more immersive internet experience. With web3 bringing new forms of ownership, the metaverse represents a completely new business model. In short, it is related to immersion and ownership.

Q: How does the KOR protocol work?

A: The KOR protocol is an on-chain IP infrastructure used for the full lifecycle management of IP. Creators can register IP, set rules and permissions, and achieve collaboration. This is a transparent permission management system that can expand IP according to the holder's wishes.

Q: How does creator compensation work? Is the license legally recognized?

A: Royalties are paid in cryptocurrency through smart contracts, but can be converted into fiat currency. We will also launch royalty tokens as a core mechanism. Licenses are based on traditional licensing contracts and are legally recognized.

Q: What advice do you have for creators who are new to web3?

A: Find your community, Web3 is built on community. Engage, try out products, and collect your first NFT. Once you find your place, the opportunities are endless.
