Eric Adams' new advisors will be June Ou, the founder of the blockchain company Figure, and Richie Hecker, the CEO of Traction and Scale. They will advise the city administration on how to use cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and Web3 technologies for the public good and economic rise of New York.

"We recognize the long-term potential of new technologies for our city, rather than chasing memes and trends," said Adams.

The mayor announced that the city's first-ever crypto summit will take place on May 20, just two months after President Donald Trump held a similar event at the White House. The aim of the summit is to invite innovators, investors, and politicians to develop the digital finance sector in New York.

Adams noted that New York is becoming a serious competitor to Silicon Valley in the field of cryptocurrencies. He added that blockchain is capable of expanding access to banking services for people, especially concerning vulnerable groups of the population.

Adams has always spoken positively about cryptocurrencies. During the election race for the mayor of New York, he promised to make the metropolis a center for Bitcoin development. When Adams was elected mayor in 2022, he stated his readiness to receive his first three salaries in bitcoins. Recently, the official noted that during this time the industry has significantly risen, as has the number of cryptocurrency startups that have settled in New York.

Last year, Adams was charged with bribery, accepting illegal donations from the Turkish government, and fraud using electronic communications. In 2023, Adams was caught secretly holding cryptocurrencies. In April 2025, the federal corruption case against him was officially dropped.
