Ripple CTO: The Crypto Tent Is Expanding – XRPL Holds a 13-Year Advantage
David Schwartz, Chief Technology Officer at Ripple, shared an in-depth post on social media commenting on the fact that more and more players in the payments and stablecoin sector are launching their own blockchains. According to him, this clearly shows that blockchains are now seen as a key part of financial infrastructure.
13 Years of XRPL Experience Schwartz emphasized that the XRP Ledger (XRPL) has built real popularity and institutional trust over the past 13 years. The network has been repeatedly tested in real-world use, continuously updated, and improved, giving it a strong lead over newly emerging projects. XRPL operates as a public and permissionless network, but also offers optional permissioned features – setting it apart from blockchains built entirely on closed validator sets. Schwartz also reminded that Ripple directly operates only a small portion of the network’s validators. While critics often point out that many other validators have ties to Ripple (such as universities or partner companies), the company officially has no direct control over XRPL.
The Decentralization Debate According to Schwartz, the discussion over blockchain decentralization vs. centralization will always be part of the industry. Every project must decide on its governance model, and users will choose according to their preferences.
Competitor’s Move: Circle Schwartz’s remarks come shortly after Circle – Ripple’s main rival – announced the launch of its own Layer 1 blockchain (L1) called Ark.
This EVM-compatible network aims to strengthen the stablecoin ecosystem and is expected to enter private testing soon.
