SEC Postpones BlackRock's Ethereum Decision to Another Day: Here's That Important Date!

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has postponed its decision on BlackRock's spot Ethereum ETF application.

The SEC is delaying its decision on spot Ethereum ETF applications, just as it did in the early stages of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) applications. In a filing filed by the regulator on Wednesday (Jan. 24), BlackRock announced that the decision on the iShares Ethereum Trust ETF offered by BlackRock has been postponed to March 10.

On March 10, which is marked as the next date, the regulator can approve, reject, or request additional time for the ETF application in question.

Stating that more time is needed to investigate the details of the file as a reason for this postponement decision, the SEC included the following statements between the lines of its statement:

In order to have sufficient time to consider the proposed rule change and the issues raised therein, the Commission considers it appropriate to set a longer period of time to act on the proposed rule change.

BlackRock submitted its spot Ethereum ETF application in November last year. Another big name that recently joined this trend was Fidelity.

Commenting on the subject, Bloomberg Intelligence ETF analyst James Seyffart once again pointed to the month of May:

Postponement decisions on spot Ethereum ETFs will continue to come up sporadically over the next few months. The next date, which is important, is May 23.
